An update on progress - or a couple of photos anyway! Actually beginning to look like a glider.

I'll probably do either the Saturday or Sunday - which ever looks best weather wise.

Looks good Fred - nice strong wing. 12mm seems a lot for the wing joiner on a model this size - but I guess it its designed for edge of the envelope stuff!

Looks like it was a good day - I was tempted but had already cashed in my glider tokens.  Took a look at the weather forecast mid-week and decided Friday was the best day - so spent a couple of hours at Kilakee on Friday afternoon.  Wind oblique from NW but lift improved through the afternoon - great flying.  Peace and quiet only disturbed intermittently by a power flyer!! Hope to see everyone at Mount Leinster next month - or closer to Dublin next weekend if the weather allows.

Scale / Building a Slingsby Skylark 4
« on: August 13, 2008, 21:11:02 PM »
That's a shame Ron that there are all those issues with the short kit and the plan.  I would have thought if one was going to market a short kit you would build or have someone else build a prototype first and iron out these sort of problems.   I actually have the Skylark plan too!  I was idly thinking of whether it would make a next project, but I decided on a Slingsby Gull 1 instead - but mustn't get ahead of myself.  I still have  some work to do on the Pilatus B4 although it is coming together now.

Anyone up for gliding tomorrow (Bank Holiday Monday) in the Dublin area?  I plan to go to Kilakee - wind looks NW.  I aim to get there around 11.00am.

Wonderful gliders - detail on some is amazing.  But what an 'abrasive' slope!

Hi Gary,

Looked like a great day out my office window - well done on getting out on the slope.  No flying for me last weekend as I was away but got some in a at Glencree the weekend before.  Was it at Kilakee that the car break in occurred?   Too bad..

Hi Guys,

I'm afraid I cannot make it tomorrow as I have stuff to do I cannot get out of  - have lots of fun.  I hope to get to the MACI glide in next month - probably on the Saturday.  Fred  - great pictures and video of the last Mount Leinster meeting.

Nice looking kit Ron - aways liked the Skylark.  Will be interested to follow your progress on this one.  What scale is the version you are building?

Yes - good to relive that one!  Well done again Fred.  It's going to look even better in the air with its new colour scheme.

I guess you can add me to your list of glider fliers who also like to sail!  Although in my case all I have access to is a very old Heron dinghy that I resurrected and redecked a few years ago.  Good to get out on the water though.  Looks like you have a nice boat there.  Can't beat wooden boats (and gliders!) - although both are a lot of work!
