Scale / Hobbyking Tempest
« on: July 20, 2020, 19:33:20 PM »
Alright, just giving a small report on that one :)

I have the P51 Mustang from the same brand for a couple of years now, and I love it! So I hoped the new Tempest was going to be more or less of the same... And it is!
If you are looking for a small scale foamy, go for it!

Note that unlike the Mustang at the time, that one comes with a Gyro. (they re-do the Mustang now with the same Gyro...).
I have to say, my first model with a Gyro. Turned it off after the first 5 minutes. Don't get me wrong, makes the model to fly like a trainer, but... That's a fighter! Fly as easy with or without, but I prefer to have the full authority, but it does as advertised :)

Second thing, battery life... Smaller than on the Mustang (same 3 cells 850Mah) but plenty of power with almost unlimited vertical flying if you like it.

Anyway, great little model to have in your boot to fly when the wind is dead or to get a break from flying complicate machines like gliders  ;D ;D

PSS / Aero "Shrike" Commander PSS build
« on: June 15, 2020, 12:32:37 PM »
Another build :)

This time a very simple one. Quick design and build to keep my mind off when I needed a break from other builds (not sure if that makes sense! :) ).

So, 3 views, plan drawing done in a day and will be semi scale, but I think it does look the part. To me anyway :)

WS is 1.4m

So, started with a bunch of parts. Fuselage goes first with the sides in 3mm balsa, 5x5mm balsa in the corners.. Classic! Sheeting will be also in 3mm balsa.

Radios / Dusting off my small collection :)
« on: June 11, 2020, 18:33:44 PM »
It does have to happen from time to time :) brought down my 20+ years radios (a few 3030 and 3010 missing in that photo!)
Half of them brand new still in box. They knew how to make them! The sticks on all of them are still very smooth :) metal casing for most of them etc.

Soon, they will be on a shelf to be admired every day :)

If you have old radios and don’t know what to do with them, I’ll be happy to add them in my collection  :D ;D

The Europa Sprint will go flying again next year, and looking for a vintage subject for the Futaba 2 (from 1976 that one)

Mc 16, my very first programmable radio
Mc 18, my second one. Brought it with me from France when I moved here. Still in 41mhz :)
Techniplus (Acoms in the UK): my first pay cheque  :)
Mc 3030, after my mc18, until I moved to 2.4ghz

To complete the mc series I owned, need to find a mc10 :) I was Graupner for years! The only other brand I had, was an Attack 4 from Futaba that I never liked.

Good days!  :D

Oldies, but goodies!

Work in progress in this kit from the naughties :) ailerons are modified to take a servi each, and they are about 3cm bigger (longer) also.
Nice light little kit!

Stay tuned!

Scale / Some good scale reading/documentation
« on: June 02, 2020, 15:08:54 PM »
My gliding books collection just got a tad bigger with these 2 bad boys joining the shelf.
Very interesting reads as usual from Martin Simons ( have the full collection now! :) ) and some very interesting subjects from Italy!

Both highly recommended!

Events / COVID-19 and meetings
« on: March 15, 2020, 13:09:12 PM »
Alright, time to talk about the zombie apocalypse!

Looks like we may have to wait a couple of years before the MACI communicate about the Covid-19 and aeromodelling in Ireland, so better to have our own sensible approach about the Coronavirus.

I don't think we have to go full blown paranoiac (but bring your own toilet paper!!  ::) ) we are all adults, and I don't think we waited for this virus before we washed our hands :)

I have checked what other modelling bodies were doing, so here it is:

Outdoor meetings.

OK to up to 10 pilots.
Talk to each other crosswind, and of course, no kisses at the slope. I'd say, more than 10, we can do 2 groups of pilots as usually, we have plenty of space in our slopes.
We are sensible people, so you know what to do.

Indoor meetings
Advise is to cancel them

Note that all CIAM meetings are cancelled for the next month.

Anyway, I think this is sensible, so our slope meetings are going ahead, just follow the rules above. Of course, if outdoor gatherings of more then 100 people is reduced by the Government, we will have to review.

Scale / 1/3 scale Ka6
« on: January 02, 2020, 13:29:44 PM »
I know, another one!
Bought earlier last year, but finally did the maiden flight in November with Ronan at the tow plane.

A big pussycat.
This is the Topmodel Ka6, WS is 5m.

First flight went without an issue. I think we did 4 that day (it was freezing!). Since the photos, I have removed the reg number and the thing on top of the fuselage. A new Reg number will be applied in due course.

Scale / 1/3 scale Arcus
« on: January 02, 2020, 13:20:21 PM »
Ok, that one is for the long run!
I finally managed to put my hand on an Arcus (well, I really wanted a Duo Discus, but eh :) ).
Made in France, near Bordeaux and the kit has been a few months in the making until I finally managed to collect it in November. You should have seen the look at Customs :)
WS is 6.7m and fuselage barely fit in the car.
Foam wing with fibreglass skin with Airbrakes, flaps etc.
Still a bit of work to be done, but minimal when you see the glider.
Add servos (13 of them)
Landing gears
Paint fuselage
Cover wings
So hopefully, will be ready next year as soon as I manage to make room in the workshop!
