Hi everyone,
just wondering what plans you all have made? I think I will only make it for one day (as usual) so just wondering what everyone else is up to?.
See you at the weekend
Ralph
-
Hey Ralph, I'm in for the 2 days (well, that was not really a surprise  )
-
Sorry guys I definitely won't make it this weekend, (may not make April either   ).
Having MAJOR problems with my back again. :!:
-
Hi all, I will be down for the weekend with my wife Roisin, plan to be on the slope around 10.30am if I get on the road on time!
-
Poor ol’ Bill has back problems, we’ll miss you Bill. Hurry up and get well. That’s an order!!!
JP, you’re bring your wife. Didn’t know she was into gliders. Er,….has she got any sisters? :D
Looks as though we’ll be flying off the North slope, right beside the car park. I’ll be up there from around 12 - 1pm Saturday
So who else is coming? ROLL CALL! Sound off guys………
K.
-
Thanks Keith, I'm hoping I'll be OK for Easter but it's by no means definite.
-
I should be there for at least 1 day. Hopefully 2.
-
Hi all,
Looks like Sunday for me, weather looks crap for Saturday. Are NW winds ok on the mountain?
John.
-
sorry i'm not making it this weekend :( but i'll be there in april
-
See you all on Sunday, Magister and Me163 fueled up and ready to go!
Ralph
-
Ready to go early for once! :D
Can see some clear sky on the Mt Leinster webcams :D
6mph winds so far on avg, but it's still early. Getting stronger apparently...
See you all there in a little while :D
-
Just heading off now, hopefully the wind will increase on the slopes, see you all soon!
-
Morning Men,……(and Roisin)
Down here in Co. Wexford there are large patches of blue sky with floating areas of cumulus passing across from the S.W.
Strong sun shine (on some very wet roads) should help to warm the ground for some possible thermals later. :)
Wind speed is zero at the moment down here on the surface of the planet, however as I just pointed out the clouds are moving, so maybe we’ll get some wind later. :D
Temp is 4*C :(
Here is a picture of the Big L. taken a couple of minutes ago. As you can see there’s lots of cloud out there but he is just visible poking out above it. 8) (I’m assuming Mount Lienster is a ‘he’ and not a ‘she’. I really don’t know how to asses the gender of a mountain! Anyone got any suggestions? :?: )

At the slope :)
Good wind and sun so far! :)
-
Just having a spot of lunch.
Looking like a lot of shower clouds coming your way Fred.
What’s the wind direction & is there any lift???
Keith

HELLO, et bonne fête aux Irlandais ( c'est la st Patrick)
on va boire de la biere aujourd'huy...... ( je ne traduis pas car j'ai pas envie aujourdhuy)
-
Photo's. Video, lets see what happened today...................PLEASE!
-
Looks a lovely day on the Big L !!!!!!
Hope you all have a wonderful time and I am sure JP will fill me in on all the gossip lol
Have fun gentlemen
-
Well, no videos I’m afraid Bill, and only a couple of snaps.
Only three of us turned up and it rained quite a lot, although we did manage to get some flying in off the south slope with a tangential breeze. Lift was not good as poor JP found out having to take a long walk to retrieve his model. :( (Can’t remember it’s name, twas a 2mtr mouldy.) Must be said he did manage to fly a little PSS model as well.
Fred, of course, managed to fly his little ‘wing’ in the light conditions for quite a while  and I chickened out of trying to fly on that part of the ridge and took a longer walk to a more windward facing part of the slope, managing a respectfull flight time, (for me!)
Perhaps the not most successful days flying, but to put a positive spin on it we, (the three of us that is) did manage to solve all the world problems and figure out a way to establish world peace and feed the starving millions.
Tomorrow looks to be a better day on the north slope with stronger winds and seemingly loads of blue sky. :D
No pictures of flying models I’m afraid. Against a back lit sky, flying models would have only appeared as silhouettes. The sun will be behind us tomorrow, so more pictures,…I promise!

Richard,...were your ears burning today???...They should have been!

Thanks for that Keith, with not being able to be there, Scotland losing to Italy & the English beating Ireland I was feeling pretty down. :(
Glad you got some flying in and hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow. :D
Johns' 2m is an RCM Pelikan Extreme from Puffin Models. I think it's actualy 2.5m and it's a foam veneer wing. To my mind far more practical for the sports flyer than a moldie. Very little weight difference and far easier to repair if needed. :?: :?:
Have a good day tomorrow

Thanks for that Keith, with not being able to be there, Scotland losing to Italy & the English beating Ireland I was feeling pretty down. :(
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/Happy%20Days/St%20George.jpg) 30 points to 9 YEAH!
Er,...okay, I'm going
-
Loading the car as i type. hows that for multitasking. see you bout 11 methinks.
-
Good man Ralph!………
Come on down to the sunny south east,…because…
"The-sun-has-got-his-hat-on,
Hip-hip-hip-hooray
The-sun-has-got-his-hat-on-and-he’s-coming-out-to-play!"
Yes folks it’s true, here in County Wexford, there are vast areas of blue sky AND ,to put the icing on the cake, a chilly but definite north wind. Only blowing at 12 Kph at the moment but, “From little acorns, mighty oaks grow.” I’m expecting great things today. Great things from a great bunch of people.
So forget your hangovers, ignore the chores, and get your arses to that paradise of gliding pleasure that is Mt. Lienster.
(Are you not inspired, people? :D )
We,……the unholy trinity, Fred, John P and myself, intend to start flying by about 10am. I shall be calling the register at 11 and anyone found to be absent will receive 100 lines and be sent to the naughty corner!
Keith
-
i'll start writing the lines now :( in the naughty coner :(
have a good day lads :D
i'm heading to the beach after dinner the winds blowing NW
-
JP is super fit with all the walking lol
Keith when your talking about me your leaving someone else alone lol.
Jp's mouldie is an Extreme and if it does not fly usually nothing will fly.
Still wish I was there but other things have forced me not to be, weather up here was perfect yesterday except for very light winds, again its the same today, I was out with the blaster this morning and the air was dead, hope it picks up for you today and you get some good flying.
Have fun gentlemen and fly low
-
Just a hello and thanks to Fred for selling his soul for the great weather. great to see everyone again. looking forward to seeing all the pics.
Ralph

Thanks all for a great day flying. By the way John my spitfire is good as new again ready for battle in April. Hi Joe if you read this I need a form signed for MACI membership, I can post it to you with a stamped addressed envelope and maybe you could forward it for me. Email to send address jjd385@gmail.com Many thanks.
John.

No doubt about it, we had a very good day. :D I think it’s true to say that we all did a lot of chatting, a lot of laughing, and er,….oh yes,….. a lot of flying. 8)
Conditions started off the day with strong lift which gradually, slowly, reduced over the following 6 hours enabling all types of models to fly at some point, ending with some graceful polyhedral ‘floaters’ by late afternoon. It was wonderful to see the old, and not so old, faces again and to catch up on all the gossip & scandal. Well,…not much scandal unfortunately. :(
Let’s see if I can name all who turned up,…….Me, then Fred, followed close behind by JP & Roisin, then Ralph, Les & Kevin showed up not long before Peter arrived. John “fireball” joined us and then Alan.
Now, everyone who’s name I have not mentioned must write out, 100 times, “I must not miss the April Glide-In at Mount Lienster.” and spend the whole of tomorrow sitting, with arms folded, in the naughty corner!
Thanks for the photos JP, NOT! I’m now in the doghouse after Mandy saw the photo of me with my arm around Roisin I‘ve been getting GBH of the ears all evening with “Is THAT what you get up to when you go flying!” Hopefully I’ll still be alive tomorrow so I can finish cutting the video footage of the blue sky, models, and pilots that made today such an enjoyable event.
Thanks to everyone who turned up from all parts of the country.
Keith
-
That would be Chris Gilbert, Keith, 100 times!
-
Great fotos Jp !
Keith , things could be worse, imagine if this was your misses and you !

 God Richard!
Once again, thank you all for coming (especially in a Bank Holiday week end  ) and a total of 10 pilots showed up on Sunday (3 on Saturday) from all over the country and from far up North
Saturday : Weather forcast predicted rain pretty much all day, but once again, you can't really predict what will happen very locally! Sun and good wind all morning! First clouds started to show up at 9 stones at around 12, and we had our first shower for about an hour (less I think...), but still managed to stay outside having a good chat!
Then back to the slope again under the sun for some light ish wind flying, where JP putted up a good fight down the valley with his X-Trem, but will finally go for a long walk. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but that's how we learn
John then flew hi BD5 PSS, and the X-Trem again (but on the right this time! :P )
We called it a day at around 3.30 when we saw a big rain front coming towards us..That will finally miss us :!: And we ended up the day flying... Erm.. Electric planes  :P All in all, a good day.
And then of course, off to the pub, JP, Roisin (very pleased to see you! JP is a lucky man!!) and myself. Only to see that Ireland and France respectively lost their games! Crowded pub as you can imagine, good chat, good fun!
I setup my Alula... Flying it was like cheating really. A very good machine to fly close to you in almost no wind / thermal

Sunday :
Up to 9 Stones at 10. Sun, big wind to one of the best slope at Mt Leinster, all was perfectly set to have a very good day! I knew killing all these chickens in a ritual way would work!
Lots of flying was done that day, I think it's safe to say that we all had a great day and everybody had it's fair share of flying! :D
By the way, the day started with big winds, that were slowly dying in the mid afternoon, allowing all models to fly, from the heaviest to the lightest glider throughout the day.
Here are some photos (sorry, no in flight ones.. My camera is not good for that :!: )
And I'm gutted! I only have 5 minutes of videos! Used an old DV tape for some reasons.. The first 10 minutes are dead!! :!: :!: I had some very good footage of Kevin's Bergfalke, JP Mig and Ralph Fouga and others... All that is gone! :!: :!:

And a short video with what I saved from the tape :

My most sincere apologies for the poor choice of music! (only had that on the PC.. some sort of meditation stuff I believe...)
Come on Keith, we all know you are going to produce a good one! :D
-
Looks like you all had a good weekend, I'm sorry I missed it.
Nice selection of models.
Mr Keith Sir, please Sir, can I avoid the lines and the naughty corner, I did send in a sick line
I'm hoping to make it down at Easter, but at the moment I'm not confident I could manage the journey in the car :!:
-
Some good photography there Fred, and thank you for your complements, and confidence in me. I didn’t know you cared,…..You're such a sweetie!
Mr. Scott, whilst it is true that you did send in a sick note I suppose I should relent and let you off. So as you’re a nice chap I will.
But don’t let it happen again!!!
As for my video of the event,……. I’ve had to stop production for two reasons,
1/ My tummy is getting tied up in knots because I’m having trouble getting my audio levels right. :!:
2/ I can’t read the notes that I’ve written. :? (I should have been a doctor, nobody can read my writing, not even me! )
I’ll come back to it later when I’ve done something to take my mind off it for a while.  Should be ready to view by tomorrow. (Just hope it turns out to be worth the effort! )
Keith
-
Okay, finally after much swearing  , backtracking :? , and paracetamol :x, here it is.
At the risk of sounding bigheaded, I think you’re gonna like this one. :) ………Not a lot! but maybe just a little.
I like to try and instil an element of ‘entertainment’ in my films, largely by injecting liberal doses of humour at various salient points. Sometimes however, to achieve that humour, it’s necessary to ‘sail a little close to the wind.’
I’m publishing this video in the sincere & genuine belief that no one will be offended by it’s contents, for I assure all viewers that none what-so-ever is intended.
Can’t remember how to embed the video into the post, so here is the web address.
I hope you enjoy it…….

interesting, informative and witty
great video Keith,
-
Very good Keith
A funny one, nice comments! :D
You are now the official videographer! :P
-
Hey all. Looks like a great meeting and my favourite slope as well :( :!: :!:
Messed up there with my dates big time. Almost made it for an hour or two. Packed the car and was driving down the lane when i changed my mind. Mothers days, wife had invited family and friends over for the day and there i was driving to the mountain. Those with wives(or just one) will know that was a bad move. So alas. It was not to be. Glad you all had a good day. See ya next time!
-
Thanks for your comments guys. :D Official videographer hu! Does that mean I get a free door stop or something? :?:
(Clears throat) “I would like to thank my parents for giving life to someone as lovely as me. And I’d like to thank my teachers ( starts to sob) and my friend, and the little old lady who let me share her umbrella on a wet afternoon when I was waiting at a bus stop in 1963."…ect ect ect
Joe, you big ol' softy you!
By the way, how did you know that your wife and invited family and friends didn't actually want you to go off to Mt. Lienster?
(Did you see the post from John "fireball" about your address?)
-
Hi keith, as always, a classic production, even Roisin had a big smile on her face after watching the video. :P
-
Nice one Keith. Very entertaining :D :D :D .
