after a very disappionting start to the thermal season i decided to invest in a new model.
so after searching the net i came across this model

it's called an Oculus and it's from www.mmglidertech.com in America
after contacting the owner Merrill Brady and finding out all the details about shipping and how long it would take to get the kit i went about working a lot of overtime to fund the model :D
so in June i had worked enough overtime to place an order :D and it would be september before i would receive the kit and as soon as it arrived i started building it :D
i now have started the covering

and i've started the wings

the covering is ultracote transparent green for the see through bits and i used parklite white for the solid parts didn't like the white so i'm for using white solarspan instead

Hmm, very interesting Andy. Just out of interest, how are the spoilers operated. Rods or cords?
Very narrow fuse, I find those very difficult to fit the servo & radio gear in. Need little nimble fingers. :)
Is the tail plane a symmetric profile?
So when’s the first flight anticipated Andy?
And, just as an aside, in your second picture,…is that a cruiser motorcycle under the covers in the background? :?:

the spoilers are operated buy two servo's in the wing i'll get a photo of them yes the tail plane is symmetrical and there's plenty of room for two small servo's in the fuselage :D
now the motorbike is a 1958 BSA A7 which was used for clubman's racing donkey's years ago, it's looks a cafe racer now with the dropped handle bars racing tank and seat, the idea was to get it road worthy but it's goona take a lot of money to sort out so at the minute it's an expensive ornament, yea i know i should sell it but i bought it off the brother in law and i told him at the time i wouldn't sell it :!: :!: :!: maybe see him over the christmas holidays and hopefully i'll have had a few beers and i might just bring it up in the conversation :lol:

I had an A10 pulling a chair. I think the A7 and A10 where the best pre unit-construction bikes made by BSA.
Don’t Sell it. I know they fetch big bucks these days but you’re holding a piece of history in your hands Andy. 8)
To raise the compression ratio on mine I removed the head, put some plasticine on the crown of the piston, re assembled the head and turned the engine over by hand. Then removed the head again and measured the thickness of the plasticine. Then skimmed the head down to that level. Ended up with about 13:1 and a very narrow power band, but a lot of BHP. 8) 8)
Found I had to beef up the clutch springs. Unfortunately I blew the Big Ends out. :cry: (It seemed a good project at the time. Ignorance is bliss!) Used to be the first chariot away from the lights every time. :D
Used to hate starting her from cold with manual advance/retard. (Never let your leg become straight on the kick starter…..Just in case! :( )
Hang on to it Andy, there can’t be many left these days.

the Oculus is now almost ready for it's maiden flight just the cg to do :D

Tell me Andy. Does the inner most section of the wing have any dihedral angle, or are is it a single flat section.
Looks pretty cool I have to say. You could give it too me for Christmas if you wanted to! :D (I wouldn’t object. :lol: )

Took the oculus to the beach today wind was northwesterly and blowing about 9mph

Our first thermal competition is next Sunday and I really hope the weather suits
All I'll say is it's some glider :D
