Title: A wee bit o' slope soaring 28th March
Post by: Happy Days on March 29, 2016, 09:04:13 AM
At first, the south slope of Big L was cloud covered, but after about 20 minutes it started to clear so Rob and I donned some cold temperature protection, (layers of clothing) and marched, at a slightly brisk pace by Rob, up the hill to the top of the S. slope. 8)

First model away was Robs' new Wasabi , recently acquired from Ralph. It didn't fly for very long unfortunately. :( We'll blamed the slope / wind combination. Although the wind speed was quite strong at the top of the hill, as we walked down to retrieve the model the speed of the wind became noticeably less to just a slight breeze.
In truth the south slope is not my favorite of the Big L slopes.

Not to be done out of a flight Rob descended the slope back to his car and returned to the summit with his trusty AR 1. With a larger wingspan and lighter model this performed somewhat better, although at times still struggled to stay in the air.
here we see Rob setting of on one of the day's walk of shame closely followed by a couple of eager onlookers. ::)

A further flight of the AR produced only marginally better flight times so t'was decided to vacate the mountain as walking up and down the slopes is neither of our favorite pass times.

Readers might be tempted to ask what did I fly? Answer,......nothing. I had only taken a polyhedral with me and when first arrived at the mountain it was far too windy to fly it. Although the wind had reduced by the time we were leaving I needed to get away for another "engagement."
So,...not much flying but it was enjoyable to catch up on stories and gossip. And besides, we still have the whole of the summer in front of us! 8)
