Well Guy's,
To keep the ball rolling regarding organizing some F3F I thought a wee post here would be appropriate. As far as i can make out there are a fair few of the gliding community who are not using this site so to spread the word further Chis in Kerry is going to post something on RC GROUPS in the Regions thread just to get them involved. Dont know how many check that thread but hopefully this will help a little to get everybody on here as the official place for organizing/dates and debates. Hope you all had a good Bank Holiday and are well rested.

Hey Ed,
I have put up that thing together 2 years ago : http://race.gliderireland.net , Feel free to use it to promote the category over here...
I have setup that thing together after the CIAM rep asked me to have a look to organise races etc etc (like the Eurotour, Viking Race...) over here.
Agreed, but this is not possible unless we had a active race circuit here first !
Asked and asked, and only 1 or 2 were interrested at the time... No support at all  So that never moved forward. Lots of people want to do it, keep complaining that is not happening, but when you ask for help, and to actually do things, you never hear anybody again! (bad mood today :P )
Hope it works this time ! :D If you need anithing, let me know.
As for the regions forum on RCG, a bit of a waste of time in my opinion, as this is barely seen, but everything worth a try !

Hey Fred,
Looks like you've put lots of work in into this already Fred. I had never seen http://race.gliderireland.net before, looks good. Real shame it hasn't worked in the past but hopefully we can get a few meets together for the Autumn or if people prefer something sooner. The trip to the North, could we use that as our first crack at a race intro/rules? How do the guy`s up there feel about that? Sure they would well up for it :D.
All just suggestions everybody so please step up and make some if your up for it.
Thanks

OK, looks like we have some interest. I've borrowed a set of timing gear, poles etc. All we need is a venue, (Slieve Gullion?) and enough bodies to compete and run the event, so that's a minimum of 5. There are at least 4 up here who'd fly, (myself, John P, Richard and Andy Wallace) & possibly more.
Why don't we try and look at a date in late Sept and see who's available? :?:

sounds good
give me plenty of notice so i can get the work sorted :D

Jusr break the clock in machine.......................AGAIN!

Good stuff, things are moving !
Why not having a try the 11-12 Sept ? :?: (if you are coming down south).
Setup the gears etc etc, and have a go, like a light funny training session and maybe define "local rules"...
Race website still up, and waiting for updates ! :D
-
i'm giging on the 11th but i might be able to make it on the 12th september :D
-
Hmmm. I was just thinking about getting myself a Typhoon 2m or Sunbird 60". Either of those would be usable yes?
Of course next I'd have to figure out how to fly with at least slight accuracy.

Noooooo Aidan,…………. just put into a steep dive from a great height an’ then ‘Bank & Yank’ it around the poles! :D

Guys,
Any more news / movement on the F3F thingy ? :?:
Do we have an "official" date the 11-12/09 or other one(s) ?
Anything ? Interrested people ?
If needed, I found a possible prize in the garage !
A Flying wing, EPP, in kit (wing core, correx and plan), MH32 profile (go faaaast)...
-
Yea, I’ll be there to try a spot of the ol’ whizzing around the poles.
MMMmmmm…….when racing does one have to go around the actual poles, or is it okay to circle around the top of the poles? :?:
If I have to fly my model around the actual poles the people under them might need some metal helmets!
-
Hope to make it.
-
Won't be around at that time.
But I'll be somewhere else training. ;)
Have fun and take some pics. :)
-
It looks like I might have to work on the 11th/12th Sept.....Booooo!
I think we should schedule something a little later in the year!

Don't know if I'll make it down, but I'll certainly send the timing gear down.
Keith.
You pass in front of the poles with the buzzer man watching to make sure that the model breaks an "imaginary" line which goes out perpendicular to the poles. Easier to do than explain!
I'll try and find a pic explaining it better :?:
-
Winds permitting I will be at the Big L on the 11th 12th !
Dad is unable to travel but I think Half Pipe is up for a weekends sloping fun.
Cannot wait to give the race a go.

Keith these vids might show whats done better.
Launch, then 30 secs to gain height then do 10 laps in front of the poles

Well thank you very much for posting that Bill. I found it very interesting. Not only as to the way in which the contest is operated but also as to the technique for flying around the distance poles.
They use a kind of split “S” and dive out of the turns,…. so it’s not just Yank & Bank. :?:
I also notice that all the models in the video were V tails. :)
Thanks again Bill
-
Type of turn will depend on the wind strength. It is possible to B&Y in strong winds, but in general conditions the split S (or Norwegian in F3f circles) turn is used. Keeps momentum better
-
Great info Bill ,
I read some were that F3F planes are changing the V tails to X tails !
Richard
-
A lot of the newer F3f machines are coming out as X tail.
Apparently it gives them a little more stability in the straight which makes up for a slightly slower turn and makes them easier to set up and fly
-
I'm having major back trouble at the moment and the thought of many hours in the car fills me with dread  :!:
I'm unlikely to be down for the next fly in, but I think John and Richard are still coming down and I'll send the timing gear etc down with them :?:
-
What you need is a good woman, Bill. :D
She‘d probably ruin your back,…….but what a way to go!
-
Good women are harder to find than good model shops in Belfast!!
