DYNAMIC SOARING
Brian:
Hi all,
Apparently whats needed is steep up little no or flat or round top and steep back down.
Not for your vintage models Fred !!!!!
It's a must do for the future.
joe:
Yeah a good steep backside to the slope is what is needed. See the diagram below.
Here is a panaroma of Parker Mountain where Joe Wurts explored and mastered DSing while bringing it to the attention of the RC glider world. It was a know phenomenon before but, I don't think it had been used/explored in the RC world before Joe Wurts http://www.withinc.com/~wwang/Soaring/pkmtn2.htm

:P God no ! 2 turns, and they explode !
On a second tought, that can be quiet funny to watch ! :D :D
Alright, I'll find a map for Mt Leinster, but definitively some suitable/good DS point on top of nine stones ! I've walked all the way a while ago, must find the photos I took that day !
I'll get the wing and the destiny ready next time... If we are not too lazy to walk up the hill that day, we'll have a go !
Brian:
Hi Guys,
Not to set too high a standard but the current speed record is 365 MPH FOR DS'ing.
From what I can see the guys with the radar guns miss the really fast passes very often.
I have to say there is some MAD stuff on utube.
I think I'll dig out the old phase 6 for this and see if I can learn how.
Fred a south west wind at the nine stones is probably the best up there, but we'll have to find out.

joe:
Yeah! I think you defiantly need something that can pull a few Gs. Things get fast very quickly if the site is working well I would imagine. Plus you need to be smooth. Next time I'm up there I will spend a bit of time trying it out!
I think my Luna can handle some light DSing.
There are a shitload of DS videos on youtube. They get boring fairly quickly but don't think that would be the case with a tranny in your hand (one for you there Keith :D)
356MPH might be a lot to ask. Apparently they need to have a special radar gun for this as the standard one is too slow. Maybe we should set a goal of 100MPH for ourselves??!!
