Any one up for the 16th Aug?
« on: August 10, 2009, 18:52:30 PM »
Shall we try again guys? :?:

How about Sunday the 16th Aug. At the moment it's predicted to have north wind at a modest 15 - 20 Km/h............(Joe, wake up! I said NORTH wind :D  that's your favourite isn't it?)

Provided these predictions stay the same I'll be there. :D

As an aside: Mount Lienster hasn't been completely clear of cloud for more than an hour or two since last Saturday. (Although I did manage to fly off of the west slope today, with the cloud base just above my head  )

Let's hope for better things on Sunday :D

Tally-Ho!

Keith,

I may travel if the weather looks OK.  Incidently, last Saturday was great up at Killakee - warm, mix of clouds and blue sky, and great lift.  One of the best days we have had there for a good while.  Jim, Mervyn and myself got some good flying in.  I did not bother bringing the Pilatus as I thought it was going to be marginal so I flew my Phase Six instead.  Must have a Phase Six convention sometime!!

Yes Peter, a Phase 6 convention. Let me see now,.........people who follow Star Trek are called 'Trekies',.....people who wear hooded jackets are called 'Hoodies' ........may be people who fly Phase 6's should be called 'Phases'

Glad you managed to get some flying in last weekend

If the wind stays in the north for Sunday there'll be good lift even in slight wind,.......just right for maidening your Pilatus.....I would like to see that in the air. :D

I'm hoping to have my new Phase 6 ready to maiden on Sunday as well.

Speaking of Star Trek, maybe you should call yourselves "Phasers"  :P  :P . If you watch star trek you'll know what I mean.

Ha!    Phasers, yes, very good Alan,........(you're showing your age dear boy)

Have you finally finished your newest construction. I'd have thought it was all done by now. Bring it up to the Big L. on Sunday and we'll have three planes loosing their 'maidenhood' :D

Unfortunately the K8 is still not finished yet. I hope by the end of this weekend to have the wings covered. Then all that is left to do is to do a few things with the fuselage and the I can cover it too. I hope to put up some more picture on the build thread soon.
Enjoy your flying you Phasers cos I'll be building.

Hi all !
I'm back !  :D

We flew in Kilakee last Sunday with Joe. Very good conditions, a mix of dynamic and thermals (far down the valley).. A really good day !
Sorry, did not came on Saturday in Kilakee, was thinking that the conditions were too marginal !  :!:
Ah well, next time !

I will not be able to go to Mt Leinster on Sunday  :!:  Have to go to Mullingar for the day... So hopefully the week end after that, with hopefully a few new toys to maiden !
Education is important, but flying RC planes and gliders is importanter!

Okay Peter,

I might be there a little bit later than that, say around 12.30.........I have a few repairs to complete following a slight 'mis-hap' with two of my planes today    I have to wait for some epoxy to go off tonight and then do a bit more work in the morning.
Alas, the Phase wont be there tomorrow either  . A couple of dud servos has forced a postponement of her maidening :!:

The weather looks fairly "OK" for tomorrow. I'll post an update on the hour starting at 07.00. The forecasts I'm seeing at the moment show the possibility of cloud. Anyway, I'll let you know.

So what models will you be bringing? The Pilatus possibly?

Is anyone else going to join us? or will Peter and I be the only two. Joe?

OK - weather permitting I'll see you tomorrow 12.30ish. I guess clouds could be an issue. Yes - I'll bring the Pilatus.  It had its maiden flight today!  It was rather windy  but I heaved it off anyway at Kilakee - it flew well although it took quite a while to get it back down again in one piece!

Oh, well done Peter     Er,......so where are the pictures?
Very glad you managed to get it down in one piece. (Which is more than I did today)

I don't know about you, but I often think to myself, when coming in on final approach, "Is she going slow enough to land without damage? Should I try and get her flying slower? (and hope she doesn't stall) or should I go round again and hope for a better approach next time?"

Oh,....the joys of being an rc Pilot!

See you tomorrow Peter. (Provided Big L. hasn't got it's head in the clouds!)

Good morning people!

Big L is sleeping under a blanket of cloud at the moment. The lower 20% is visable but the rest aint! (Yet anyway.)

The sky is mostly covered in high cloud with a few breaks where the sun is poking through.

Wind speed and direction is Zero. (Part of the early morning Lull I think  )

On the bright side there are no rain clouds visible and the temp. is 14degrees C.

The mountain is gradually waking up :D  , only the top half is still in cloud.

Cloud cover over the rest of the sky is also breaking up.

Wind speed has increased, (well it could hardly reduce from my last report  ) and is now 20Km/h West/ WSW.

Temp: 14 C.
