Winter winds are here, who's flying ?
« on: November 24, 2011, 16:28:26 PM »
The first of the big winds have hit up North,
Made a lone trip to Slieve Gallion today but was blown of the slope lol
I got 1 flight when the winds were 67km/h but after a cup of coffee the winds at 1pm picked up to a steady 93km/h with gusts to 118kmph.
My Le Fish was all ove the place and I ended up detaching the tail plane.
I came home cold and wind battered but I was smiling from ear to ear.
I hope to be on the mountain again on Saturday so if anyone is free why not come join us.
I hope JP aint working
I want to fly his Quark quark

Now there’s a man after my own heart!! Well done Richard!
(Fred would say that flying in those conditions is like flying a powered plane, (too much lift) i.e. he doesn’t approve. )

But like you, I love it. Just you, the plane, verses  the mountains and the gales to do battle with each other. In my case the gales nearly always win but it’s very satisfying. Particularly if you go home with all models still intact - RESULT!! :D

So, you’ll have a little bit of work to do tonight Richard. Wont take you long.

I’m hoping to get up Mt L. tomorrow. Winds are forecast to be calmer than today but I’m hopeful of some, ’entertainment’ (Sunday is also looking okay for the big L.)

Try not to run out of airspeed, altitude and ideas....... all at the same time.

Hi , this morning I was wakened by the winds blowing, after a coffee I measured the winds at 70km/h so I think the mountain is out of bounds today.
I have a few things to do in Belfast this morning so will text you to let you know if it calms down a little.

NIMSA Fly!

NIMSA boys flew yesterday afternoon for about 3 hours, before the cold won! :(
Plenty flying, (a few crashes on my part!). JP travelled over and flew with us. The Quark is beautiful in the air and JP did a lovely finishing job on it.

Other models flown:
BD5, A4, Zagi, Windrider Fox, Calypso contest, two home brew V tails.

A nice afternoon with the winds averaging 15 - 20 with some bigger gusts. Only got hit with one shower late in the afternoon. Nice to get out on the hills again. :)

The first scattering of snow is now covering the slope at Slieve Gallion, today there is more snow forcast to fall.
I was on the slope for half an hour yesterday and the cold made me leave early.
Baltic winter weather has arrived for sure.
