A Sunday's gentle combat (11th August 2013)
« on: August 11, 2013, 23:26:32 PM »
With westerly winds and a relatively clear sky three of us put in a show at the Big L on Sunday.
Big Keith, Stephen and myself intended to exploit the gentle lift of the 15 gusting 25kph breezes.

B. Keith flew his new Quark two or three times and was just getting it in trim, having landed a few times to make clevis adjustments, when the model went into an uncontrollable spin and nosed into the bottom of the valley. :(
When Keith returned with the model it could be seen to be repairable, but it’ll take some time.

Next up, Stephen flew his powered easy glider. Again he was flying it very well, out in the lift. I didn’t see exactly what happened but he too ended up taking the walk of shame. :(  Again his model is repairable, but it too needs a fair bit of work.

So the lads decided to return to the ‘old faithfulls’ of combat wings. (Much more resilient) At one stage they did actually manage contact :P  with Keith’s Zagi removing one of Stephens’ Skua’s fins. Unfortunately I didn’t have the camera rolling at that moment! :!:

Here’s three minutes of Combat Crazyness. :D

Nice one Keith,
I  ventured up to Killakee today but it was so windy 30+ knots and I no longer have a foam wing (another story). I had intended flying my foam Quark (now nearing end of lifespan) but on rigging discovered a broken aileron horn, luckily I had my old reliable spitfire with me so I flew that off the lower road (I kid myself that there's less wind down there. I had a 15 minute flight and spent another 15 trying to get it back to terra firma. All came home intact and I had my slope fix. I must put my name down in the Quark kit queue.
John.

Well done John,  and “it all came home intact” even better! Must say I’m very impressed that you had the tenacity to keep trying for 15minutes to get a good landing ….You get a gold star for that!! :P

A lot of pilots would have a couple of goes at landing in testing conditions, then got the plane as low as possible over the landing zone and basically ditch the model, hoping it’ll remain in one piece. (As me how I know  )

Not too sure exactly what video you’re talking about?

The footage I shot on the mountain is at the beginning of this thread you numpty!
(Can’t email it to you, it’s far too big a file for an email )

Did you get the carbon rods for the wing joiner and tail?

You can’t call me a Numpty!.   You’re supposed to respect your elders. ( Is nothing sacred any more? :( )

Glad to hear your rods are on their way. Hopefully the Quark will be flying again soon. :D

As for the video. I don’t know why you can’t see it. :?:  It shows on my computer, and it’s had 17 other viewings to date.

Here’s the link for it https://vimeo.com/72154733
