Is this why more people don't build wooden gliders?
They can't get the wood.

Been searching the internet for some ply. Everything from 1/32" to 1/4".
But unless I send to the UK for it, and pay the shipping, it seems there's none to be had.
Some shops, notably in Dublin, have a very limited stock of a few sizes.

Where do people buy their ply? :?

Ron

Hi Ron,
As we said before, we pretty much have anything you need/want !

I use at least a forest of balsa / plywood a year for my own use, so we have everything !

Not all is listed seeing the lack of interrest for the building stuff, but if you give me a list, in metric, I'll let you know !

If not in stock, we can have it within a week  :D

Hi Fred,

Yes you are definitely the largest stockist of wood for modelling in Ireland.
That's because you are the only stockist of wood for modelling in Ireland  :!:

We all ought to be planting trees.
Not sure Balsa will grow on bog though...

Have to ask my local tree man if he's got any plywood trees 8)

Ron.

Oops, sorry.
Metric measurements.

I piece of 1/8" ply from the scrap box measures 0.127", so that's a couple of thousanths of an inch over 1/8".
Not bad.
But that makes it about 3.175mm. (or 3.3539635217573706e-19 light years  )

There's a good converter at:
http://www.smallholders.org/index.php?linkto=conversions.html

So 1/16" would be 1.5875mm, and 1/32" is nearly 0.8mm.

I wonder if ply is actually made in imperial or metric? :?

On a plan I have it says 1/4" or 6mm, which has to be near enough.

Ron.

There aren't many hobby shops around...
I guess RC planes is not a big hobby in Ireland. :(

Hi there,

With 800 MACI members, that's not bad at all considering the Irish population.

For the model shop, well, just compare the prices with everywhere else in Europe (to stay in the Euro zone...)... Credit card planes can be bought over the Internet for relatively cheap... And to have another shop proposing the same things RTF than the others, I don't see the point anyway  :?:
Who needs wood and all the boring stuff these days except a small group of people ? This hobby is less and less manual...

Fellow modelers must love having the same RTF plane/glider as their clubmates  :?:  (very old debate !)

Anyway Ron, I'm having a look now and let you know !  :D

Yes it's quite good really.
We are just spread out all over the place, so that doesn't make sense for a shop.
And, as you say, people aren't interested much in building with wood these days.

I used to be interested in Amateur Radio, back in the days of... errr... what were those glass things called... valves, that was it
And we used to design and build all our own gear.

But then it all went to Japanese black boxes, and very good they are too.
But no-one builds any more.

Up the woodys I say

True sometimes the RTF is the way to go.
Not everyone as the skills or the patience to build a plane from scratch.

I'm honest if someone puts in my hands a kit from laser cut parts i will build it, but if i had to cut everything from scratch.. i don't know!
But i want to do it at least once, the closest i had to that was using depron.
Not too bad i must say, despite the end result. :( The plane seemed to be for control by wire it only flew to one side. :)
