Hi all

I'm back !

Retroplane 2009 officially closed its doors Saturday! 2 weeks talking gliders, needed a break, and decided to go back to work today!

What to say ? First of all, a big thank you to everybody, participating, or not (with a special thank you to Bill from Nimsa(NI) for the helping hands, and of course Joe, which patience was more than a virtue! ) and I've heard in the group that the Irish hospitality was far from being a legend !

Lots of stories to tell and hundreds, if not thousands, of photos to show!
I'm setting up a galery and will send the link later, but I will keep this thread updated with photos, a sort of best of!

Vincent will do as usual, a dedicated page with even more inside stories, photos and videos! :clap:

I think everybody left the country really pleased with this year's event, even if the weather showed no mercy for the 2 weeks and throwed pretty much everything at us (we were even expecting some snow, just to make sure we had everything!), but this is a real Irish summer after all, and everybody came prepared (ok, more or less...

) and all in all, one of the Retroplane where the most flights were done ! :clap:

Last pilots left yesterday. Right back to normality again.
Would also like to say a big thanks to everyone. Especially Bill for the helping hand and David for his help and entertainment coordination! Big thanks as well to Kevin, Les and Ralph for helping with the indoor days and sacrificing their indoor models to keep people entertained.

Hi folks
back in Germany I immediately pulled out my shorts, what a heat here. I am not used to that after two weeks in Ireland :lol: . What to say about the country and the people. Everything I heared before was true, nice and friendly people, great hospitality gorgeous landscape and yes - even the rain was real

Thank you to Fred and Joe for two great weeks, to David for helping to install the awning, to Ralph for encourageing my son Timo in indoor flying and providing the material to do so and all the others I forgot.
Two weeks, which we will certainly never forget.
The picture is one out of our trip to the Kerry, around Dingel based on Joe's advice - at the end of the world :wink:

I must agree with everyone, it was a fantastic event. We all had a great time and made new friends over the last two weeks. I think a special thanks must go to Joe and Fred for their endless work for being wonderful hosts for the event.

I was happy to encourage Timo, he was a great lad and loved teh Irish weather.

I hope to see you all again next year

Thanks everyone for making me welcome, although I really do need to brush up on my French :?

Joe, I always feel you get out of an event what you're willing to put in, so I'm always happy to help out wherever needed. (Ask the Jetmasters boys or the Scottish Viking Race team)

I hope to make Austria next year, but fromNI it's a long way to travel and could involve two ferry journeys. Need to look in to it more when we get a definite location. :?:

Will be at Mt Leinster in sept for the Glide In. (Flying this time)

Yeah next year will be Salzburg or Cherbourg.
Guess you need a burg/bourg in your name to host it next year.
It is not decided yet as far as I know. Fingers crossed for Cherbourg. It's a ferry away from Rosslare. If it's Salzburg we will have to wait and see.

. But where would you fly. It seems like it is mostly flat land around their. Although the atlas I'm looking is not very good so I'm not sure :?:

Well, for me the driving distance is the same to Austria and to Cherbourg.... But I would prefer Austria.... It's cheaper on the Autobahn.

But we'll see what Vincent decides.

Would anybody please involve Keith in a wooden plane for next Year? I would miss his humor :lol:

Well thank you for your kind words Lothar. (They are a pleasant change from some of the abuse I normally get from certain members of this forum :lol: )

Unfortunately I don't find building/ flying scale models very exciting. I prefer to fly acro' models in 60Km/h winds. I like to feel my heart pounding in my chest, then I can be sure I'm still alive!

So, unfortunately, wherever Retroplane is held next year I wont be there.

But one day I do hope to have the pleasure of seeing you back on Mt. Lienster. Then we will spend many, many hours talking, laughing, and flying together. I would like that.

Of course we still have this forum to stay in contact, so for now I say,

Well Keith,

i can tell You, if You've made Your own drawings on the computer, if You've seen Your millingmaschine making the ribbs and frames and so on, and when You build on Your plane for months with plywood and glue,

then You will feel your heart beating very hard in Your cheast, You will be wet in all Your clothes and You need some rubber between Your knees to protect them whlie swingeing against each other :lol:

I can tell You, it doesn't look as spectacular as acro-flying at wind of 60km/h (what is it miles per hour? :wink: ), but it can be the best kick of adrenalin You ever get. :shock:

think about it.... :mrgreen:
