DC3
« on: January 04, 2018, 11:23:55 AM »
Alright, another PSS project that I just started.
I used the Hobbyking DC3 (1.6m ws) as a base.

A few changes to the kit to make it scale was done, like the canopy, now scale in shape!
Will also include the interior with 2 civilian pilots etc.

Plan is to cover the entire model with Aluminium for a "real" finish. Scheme will be the TWA, Swissair, Finnair or Delta airlines... Haven't decided yet!  :-\

Anyway, here are a couple of photos of the start of the project. The aluminium finish does look the part from a distance, so happy with that... But a pain in the neck to put on!  :'(

Thank you all :)
It's actually not that good to be honest, but as long as it does look the part from 2 metres, I am happy with that :)

More photos later, with the start of the actual build! :)

A tiny bit of progress last night!
Spar is in. Next, servos and links.

Oh, and there is no plans or build instructions... Lots of pieces I don't have a clue where they go! So, looks like my DC3 will be lighter than the RTF one :)

Ok, time to finish those wings!
Servis put in and plugged. I put the ones for the flaps, but, I may not plug them in. Maybe after the first flight as I cannot see them being useful in that case. So we’ll see if that is a good decision!

THEn, the latest ne and painful task of covering that thing with aluminium tape!

I use the 3M one, lightish, and is actually real aluminium.

Painful to put in, and I did them by individual panels, cut to size. Worth the pain I think, as I am pleased with the results :)

Now, underside left to be done, and we can tackle the fuselage!

Alright, shifted focus on the fuselage!
I wanted a more scale look, as the front fuselage looked odd to me. I really did not wanted to re-do the entire thing, and I was going to sadly, leave it as is... Until I found a company in the US that produced a more scale cockpit parts... With pilots etc.

Ordered straight away, and promptly received.. This is much, much better! (see photos).

Anyway, a bit of work done yesterday, with the cutting and fitting of all the parts, then gluing them inside the cockpit.

Everything is now ready to be painted :)

Looks good so far. Also received my stickers from Callie Graphics, and that thing might turn out better than expected! :)
