Sports / So, I joined a club! SRFC
« on: February 11, 2024, 19:27:27 PM »
I must have been talking about it for the last 20 years! And well, this year, you will finally stop hearing me mentioning it, because I finally joined a club! (Well, outside of the ISR! 🤣)

The club is the Shankill Radio Flying Club, located at the foot of the Sugar Loaf mountain, about 25 minutes from home, so ideally located!

I must say, of all the clubs I visited around Dublin, this is by far the friendliest and most relax about new comers, and to me, not a surprise their numbers are growing as I was told by Barry Saturday! Totally deserved!

I won’t bored you with the details, all I can say is that it is nice to meet like minded people, and as for me, when it’s not good for gliding, great to have another spot to crash my things 🤣

Anyway, here are a couple of photos, I’ll update here as I go along, so stay tuned!

Finally glueing some wood!

Quickly designed, and something I had in mind doing for a very long time! The 50th Macon meeting required something out of the ordinary, and I think I found something never done in PSS!

Will it fly? That’s a problem for later 🤣

Root chord is 1.5m, and I needed a special building board.

Here are a few photos, sheeting in progress 😁

For Sale / ASW17 fully molded
« on: January 25, 2024, 11:50:09 AM »
Hi all,

I might regret it, but I need room!

For sale is my 4.2m ASW17 fully molded with Carbon re-enforcements. Mine is marked as Robbe, but it was marketed under a couple of names, like

Comes fully equipped with all the servos, landing gear,  flaps, airbrakes, tow release and a home made SLS (not by me!).

The SLS is currently removed as I wanted to fly it as a glider only. But easy to re-install (4 bolts)

I can't say much more as I never flew it! (I know, I know  :-[ ) but glider is in mint condition, and the only deviation from the kit is the SLS opening (not a fan!)

SLS is home made I believe and made of aluminum and very sturdy. Comes with everything. I know nothing about electrics, so whatever batteries you'll need, I don't know :)

If my luggage scale is accurate, weight (without SLS) is about 6.9Kgs

750€

Bonjour Paddy,

It's not me who says it or my mother, so it must be true  ;)

Macon is also beautiful. A beautiful place to stay (and warm!)

The slope overlook the famous "Roche de Solutré"

Macon is also dangerous!

A modeler hurt his ankle I believe going down the slope trying to retrieve a glider. In fairness, going into the "buis" is an adventure in itself! Not recommended unless you are extra careful.

Anyway, all was good at the end, we just could not hear him calling for help! so took about 30 minutes before someone noticed he was missing. Flying stopped for about 2 hours, the time for the firemen to get the guy up safely and brought to hospital.

More models!

AAaahh the B29! I was supposed to "fly" the Bell X1 if we managed to launch them. Thanks God we did not!  ;D ;D

And also, good to see lots of Quarks, definitively a favorite!

Macon, it's also lots of models!

3 competitions:

PSS (the main event)
Scale Gliders
Thermal Duration

Of course, for me, this year highlight was to see the 2 B29 at the slope (no flying, even if that was really really tempting!)

God, forgot to share about that one!!

So last year, as usual, trip to the Macon PSS event, and as usual, had nothing prepared  ;D ;D

Another great year! The flying conditions were challenging at time, but that's slope soaring (otherwise, we get bored! :) )

Anyway, you should have been there!

So, what is Macon? Macon is first and foremost, Friends, and food and drinks (lots of it :) )
